Part of the "community approach to preventing disease in livestock and nondomestic ruminants" project involves providing outreach and extension to the local community. From August 11 to 17 the research team and some friends were at the Muskingum County Fair in Zanesville, Ohio, providing information about transmission of diseases between species and the role of environment in disease and health. To promote being healthy at the fair, we handed out sunscreen and hand sanitizer to visitors. In addition, we were able to recruit some farmers in the area to participate in our study. Thanks to our partners: OSU Extension, the Wilds, Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department, Franklin County Health Department, Ohio Department of Agriculture Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, and USDA Wildlife Service for providing support and information to hand out.
